01The problem

Cleaning a disk means deleting files, and one wrong guess destroys someone’s work. The app has to be ruthless with clutter while making loss structurally hard, and do it without sending file data anywhere.

SiftSpace scans the locations a person chooses and sorts what it finds into clear categories: system junk, duplicates, developer build files, large and old files, and the leftovers of deleted apps. Every item is explained before anything moves.

Nothing is hard-deleted. Approved items go to the Trash, nothing risky is ever pre-selected, and data that other apps depend on, such as Docker images, VM disks, databases and AI models, is never treated as junk. Keychains, Mail, Messages, SSH and cloud keys are walled off from cleanup entirely.

Beside storage sits a read-only security console: a posture score, a suspicious-file scan, a permission audit and a check of startup items. File names, paths and results stay on the Mac.

02What makes it hard

    Recoverable by default

    Every cleanup moves items to the Finder Trash, behind a two-step confirmation that shows exactly what will move and how much. Nothing risky is ever selected on the user’s behalf.

    Knowing what not to touch

    Docker images, VM disks, databases and AI models are classed as app data rather than junk. Keychains, Mail, Messages, SSH and cloud keys are excluded from cleanup outright.

    A security check without an admin password

    A read-only audit of FileVault, the firewall, Gatekeeper, System Integrity Protection, updates, sharing and startup items, graded into one score with a jump to each setting.

  4. 04

    Signals, not verdicts

    Bundled YARA-X rules flag suspicious behavior in launch points and selected locations. A match is presented as something to review, and nothing is removed automatically.

  5. 05

    Who can watch and listen

    A permission audit lists every app holding camera, microphone, screen-recording, accessibility or Full Disk Access rights, shows its real icon and flags the unsigned ones.

  6. 06

    File data stays on the Mac

    Scanning, cleanup and results stay local. An optional Google or GitHub sign-in adds history, monitoring and daily scheduled scans without uploading file names, paths or results.
